A big mid-palate of complex creamy citrus tones
The 2008 Mika is 33% Pinot Gris from Abiqua Vineyard in Scotts Mill, located in the mid Willamette Valley, Oregon and 67% Chardonnay from Premier Pacific Vineyards outside Carlton, Oregon.
The Pinot Gris was harvested on Halloween with all the drama that incoming bad weather and a broken tractor could provide. The wine was fermented cold in stainless steel. The fermentation was stopped before malolactic fermentation, thus preserving its luscious fruit and acidity.
The Chardonnay clones are Dijon 76 and 95 from young vines. The wine was barrel fermented in neutral wood and taken through malolactic fermentation adding nice depth and texture to the mouth of the wine.
400 cases produced.
The blend is very forward on the nose with both fruit and floral aromas. It then carries a big mid-palate of complex creamy citrus tones. The finish is long with beautiful citrus elements, with lemon prevailing. The style is reminiscent of a northern Italian white but a bit bolder.
